Friendship Sculpture by Václav Fiala (Artist) Dedication

Friendship Sculpture by Václav Fiala

The Friendship Table contains design elements from the Artist’s WWII monument in Domažlice, Czech Republic, a Sister City of Two Rivers, WI. The sculpture will honor the deep cultural connection between the two cities. Many Two Rivers residents can trace their lineage back to Domažlice and the surrounding countryside. Two Rivers is in the middle of the largest
concentration of 19 th Century Czech Immigrants who settled in the state of Wisconsin. Two Rivers resident, Lieutenant Colonel Matt Konop, was the commander of the Advance Party of the US Army that liberated Domažlice from the Nazis at the end of World War Two. The Friendship Table will be installed just steps from a bronze plaque on Two Rivers City Hall recognizing Konop for his World War Two heroics. A casting of this plaque is also permanently displayed in the main square of Domažlice.
