After Tova's husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium as a janitor. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her 18-year-old son, Erik, vanished on a boat in Puget Sound more than 30 years ago.
At the aquarium, Tova becomes acquainted with Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.
Marcellus deduces what happened the night Tova’s son disappeared, and now must use every trick his old invertebrate body can muster to unearth the truth for her before it’s too late.
About the club: Read a book and create art it inspires. Meet to share impressions of the book, show your art and describe your creative process. For adults 18+. Meetings are scheduled the fourth Saturday every other month (though the December meeting was moved up due to the holidays).
The Feb. 22 selection, Before the Coffee Gets Cold, will be distributed at this meeting.
